Poetry Bulletin moves to Substack, starting with the November 2022 issue.
The Poetry Bulletin is a monthly newsletter with deadlines and tools to create, revise, and publish your poetry manuscript.
This is an extension of the work I’ve been doing since 2018 to gather opportunities for poetry books and share them in a way that (hopefully) brings more ease, access, and transparency to publishing. Learn more about the project here.
Starting with the November 2022 issue, I’m sending the bulletin using Substack. If you were already a reader, there’s nothing you need to do to be part of this change.
I’ve made this change for three reasons:
Discoverability: Substack makes it easier to have a freely available and accessible archive of past issues. This means discovery is more likely—poets who might need these resources have a better chance of stumbling onto them here.
Maintenance costs: The Poetry Bulletin has grown a lot. The monthly letter now goes to over 1,200 people—which is wonderful! But more subscribers meant more fees for me (at the previous email service). Substack allows newsletters to grow for free, regardless of subscriber count. That’s a big deal for a project like this, which is a labor of love.
Future-proofing: I’m intentionally separating the Poetry Bulletin’s “assets” from my writing workshops and personal website. This is a community resource. If things change and I can’t continue the project, I want it to be easy for someone else to come in and pick up where I left off. That’s why I built the project its own website this year. And now hosting it on its own Substack account will help keep the mailing list clean and separated.
